That is such a beautiful piece of art. I know it's the Native Americans but you probably want the exact tribe. I don't know that.
Hi Cyd~
I love the colors in this piece and am quite curious which group of people create this style of art.
What a great contest idea! Someone's going to be very lucky to receive a locket from you.

I love your jewelry and I live in pdx, too!
Is it mexican Huichol art?

I'm going to say the Hopi tribe, but I'm not sure. I think they do a lot of beadwork.
Beautiful collection of bead art!!
The Assiniboine/Sioux Indian is one of the West's most highly regarded beadworkers...so they would be my quess.
Oh, I would love to win a piece of your work.
My guess is the Huichol Indians. They do really similar beadwork and yarn paintings.
Gorgeous jewelry!
I'd like to try again...was is made by the Huichol ??
I would love for you to draw my name.

i say the Huichol Indians from Mexico. Great piece you are sharing.
I think the Mayan Indians - but aren't they extinct?? That's the first thing that popped into my head........... laura
After a lot of searching this is what I found:
Huichol yarn paintings are created from the visions and dreams of the artist. They bring alive the world of Huichol shamanism and the gods and goddesses of creation - Grandfather Fire, Elder Brother Deer, Grandmother Growth and Grandmother Eagle, among others. The hidden world of Huichol shamanic tradition is revealed through these exquisite visions.
Thank you for enriching our souls!
Great comments everyone!
In reference to Sharon's post about the Huichol Indians, the vision quests which they take are brought on by the influence of the desert peyote plant, a small ground hugging cacti, with hallucinogenic properties.
I'm going with the Mexican Huichol Indians. But I have to admit I didn't actually know the answer until I Googled "Indian Art Beadwork Masks". Yeah, that's totally what I typed in. Thought that would cover all my bases.
loooove your store, by the way.
Lovely locket, and STUNNING Huichol art. It is definitely Huichol as the first piece is done by the amazing Huichol yarn artist Jose Benitez Sanchez.

Another vote for Huichol.
If anyone's in Chicago there's terrific art like this at the National Museum of Mexican Art.
My guess is the Huichol Indians.
Thanks for the fun giveaway!
